Parents of older children (over five) does it get better?

I am hardly even at the halfway mark (17 weeks today) but I am always thinking ahead.

I know that babies are cute and sweet and loveable but that is the right here, right now.

What happens when they get older? What happens when the cuteness fades?

This is not meant to be shallow. This is a brutally honest question. I can't seem to look into the future of my child growing up.

Tell me about the love for your child(ren) after they grow up out of cute baby and toddler stages.

The toddler years lets see: It si harder because they get obnoxious Chat Icon yet it is fun because they are little people and you can do things with them.

I did not like the newborn time when all they do is eat, sleep and cry. I am so loving Sara's age now 6 1/2 months. She has a personality and is always happy. Sammy ( age 4) is VERY WHINIY Chat Icon Chat Icon now and it is tough but he is and will always be my little princeChat Icon my first born.

Every stage is great they have their pros and cons. Just enjoooy it all and take it all in. You will be fine. There is no love like a child's love. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I do know how you feel though because I cant imagine myself a mother of a pre - teen teenagager and adult Chat Icon Chat Icon . It totally freaks me out Chat Icon

JUst ake each stage as it comes. LIke I said before there is no TRUE LOVE like your own childs un conditoned love Chat Icon

It's hard to answer your question because all children grow up differently. Much depends on how they are raised, how much attention they receive, how much praise they get, how many times they are told they are loved and are the most important people in their parents lives. They need to know that their parents will always be supportive, no matter what; that they will always be there for them. They need to know that the discipline they receive is done because they are loved, not because they are bad. They need to know that when they walk through that door at the end of the day, that this is their safe haven. That no one there will hurt them, make fun of them or ridicule them. Parenting is the hardest job anyone can ever have. There are no manuals or written instructions that come with children. You can only do the best you can and hope and pray that it's enough. Yes, the cuteness fades, but the love for your child never does. My children are grown and I love them more now than I ever did. Even though they are my children, I love them as the adults they have become and will continue to love them for all time. Nothing will ever change that.

Thanks for the thoughts. I guess it is hard to see into the future. But I just realized that while I may not imagine myself with an older child, ten years ago I didn't imagine myself married and pregnant. I guess I will mature as my child matrues and the idea of an older child won't seem so weird.

I think you should just enjoy today. One day at a time. If you spend all your time thinking about the future you will miss the beauty of the present.

For me each day has been better than the next, but I savored every moment.
