birth control
anyone take the bc pill that is safe to use while breastfeeding ( the mini pill/ mom&pop pill)? My dr. recommended it to me, I was kind of thinking to just wait to go back to my old pill when I switch over to formula going back to work. ( Yes I know I can get preggo if not protected while breastfeeding) any feedback is appreciated.

The ONLY birth control pill you can take while BF is the mini-pill. You MUST take it at the same time every day..no room for error with the mini-pill. You can use a diaphram or look into an IUD- which is a great form of birth control during BF or non-BF.

I took the mini-pill because I BF and I hated it. I was getting my period back right away, and then was getting it every 2 weeks. So I stopped it and hoped and prayed......  My cycles were regular and I tracked them while I BF for a year.

You can take the combo pill, but it's typically not recommended because you risk your supply drastically dropping off. Most Dr's advise against it for this reason.
I took the mini-pill and didn't like it. It's different for everyone though.

My DR prescribed the mini-pill but there was a precaution on the rx saying that the hormones are excreted in BM and to disucss the risks to your baby with your practitioner, that scared me! When I called the doctor, the doc explained to me that there are risks with everything and although there are no known risks at this point, the effects are still being tracked. I put the rx in my medicine cabinet until after i am done BFing. So now, we just try to be extra careful! But we;ve already had 2 scares so I am looking forward to starting that pill once I stop Bfing, 6 more months .

I took the minipill while I was exclusively BFing and had no problems with it and I didn't get AF back until about 9 months.
