work related question

Two weeks ago I told my job I was preggo.
I started in october and they hired me without my licensure (I am a social worker). I have a MSW not the LMSW yet. I have to take the test. Okay so they find out I am preggo and now they are asking, so when are you getting your license? I am wondering if they are feeling like letting me go now that I am pregnant. This wasn an issue before. Can they do that? I am planning on taking the test but due to morning sickness I cant right this sec.

Re: work related question

I would take the test as soon as you can, if for no other reason to prove that you are still committed to doing your job. However, it is illegal for them to fire you because you are pregnant. It is not, though, illegal for them to fire you for not meeting the job requirements, which they may use you noy being a LMSW yet as an excuse for.

depends on if you have a union...

if no...they can certainly fire you...
if yes...it will be much harder...but you are still under a year..so it is iffy..

Do you think they just want you to get your license?

Isn't the test coming up soon?

In my union (a state employee union) they can fire you within the first year for no reason. In my job they probably would not renew for another year knowing you were PG.

Someone at work is going through this too ans was just given a deadline. I am an LMSW, the test is not given at one particular time, you have to sign up for it and take when you get an appointment. Signing up for it is a long, annoying process so even if you are not up to taking it right now you should start the paperwork.
I don't know where you work, but I am in a hospital and they just started making a big deal about licences because we are being inspected. Good luck!

Re: work related question

But a lot of state jobs will hire pending the exam...

and since the exams are not all yearly...you can work past probation time...

and if you do not take the test or fail it...you can be fired..

You may want to start documenting conversations (in writing). The dates you've told them, the dates they asked about your test, etc. If they are trying to fire you because you're pregnant, at least you'll have the info you need.

In the end, I think they're trying to find out if you plan to come back afterwards. Making plans to take that test is the way to show you are (even if you're notChat Icon )
