My mom is convinced we're getting our property back in Cuba
My mom grew up (till she was 10 or 11) in Camaguey, Cuba...but my grandfather (who has now passed) used to work for Batista and when Castro came, they had to leave the country and their property was seized. My grandma actually has the deed and my mom thinks we'll be able to get the land back. Do you really think so? I'm telling her I doubt it. But I'm like...sweet. A vacation home in Cuba! (i'm a little ahead of myself. The mob and casinos will totally be there first)

Sorry, this is a really naive question, but can you get to Cuba from the states? I thought you had to go on a flight from outside of the states...

I've also heard that Castro's brother is "worse" than he is... whatever that means. I think all of his croneys will have to pass, just like there was a generational shift in the leadership of the USSR with Gorbachev, before anything revolutionary happens.

As of now, no. You can get there from Canada...or take a boat when you're in the Caribbean, but because of "who I am" if I went and they found out my descent...they'd probably keep me!

I would hang on to the deed. When & if the regime falls, I'd say you'd have a good claim. They're still getting paintings & reparation for what the Nazi's seized over 50 years ago.

We were talking about Cuba last night and about what will happen if & when Castro dies. Some of my family felt that the govt. would be overthrown. I doubt it. 
I don't think your mom can get that land back to be honest. It's been so long since she left & the people that claimed it when she left may have produced new deeds.
