People who commute to NYC and didn't go to work on Monday...
For anyone who lives on LI and works in NYC and didn't go to work on Monday due to the fact that the LIRR was NOT operating on your line...I have a question for you...we're you docked a vacation/personal or PTO day for not coming in?

I didn't come in on Monday, and my trains were running ok (Metro North)..
But my coworker lives in Long Island, stayed home and she was docked a vacation day just like I was...

The hempstead and Port Washington lines were out all day pretty much and my line was our for hours in the morning.
Even later in the afternoon when it started running, the trains were going in to Penn. The wold go to jamaica and people were taking the E train to Penn (about 45 min trip)

I didn't come in on Monday but in my position, I have the option of working from home, which is what i did. If i did not have that option I would have been docked a vacation or sick day.

I stayed home -- I am on the Pt Washington branch and the trains did not start running until after 2.00pm. I will be charged a sick/personal day just like the people that took off during the transit strike were charged personal time.

I take the Port Washington line, so I was home. I told my boss I'd work from home...I didn't do much, but at least I didn't get charged for the day.

My boss left me a voice mail saying that I had to have made the effort to get to work, and since I didn't I have to use a vacation or sick day. He made it in....well, I was actually sick so I'll use a sick day, but if you ask me, its so b.s. Since we have people in our group who can work from home, they can, but b/c I am an admin, I can work from home, but since I report to 'him' I am technically not able to work from home, I need to be here...so much for flexibility in the workplace. Next time I will make the attempt then call in 3 hours later saying i am still on the platform!!!
(it's been a bad day--sorry for being so negative!!)

Ugh it's so frustrating.
The people in my office who dont live on LI have no idea what it's like.
LI in a blizzard is a different world than NYC is. I wish they would just get it for once.

I came in (albeit very late) because I know if I didnt I would get docked a day. This also held true for the transit strike last year. I spent $45 a day to get home and back because Id rather have the days off I actually wanted.

I made it in at 11. I had emailed my boss to tell him that Penn was closed and he said he would understand if I didn't make it in. He commutes from Westchester, so he's pretty good. I came in because I had so much to do and I really can't work effectively from home. I would not have been docked and don't think anyone in our company would be.

I came in (FOUR HOURS). If people didn't make it in & weren't able to work from home, then they have to use their personal time.
