OMG...Your poor MIL! I would be furious too! Maybe when she comes back you can talk to her (by that time you may be calmer) and have her let you or DH talk to the tenants!
Does she need the $$$, maybe you/she could tell them they have to leave. Make up a lie, like you guys have to move in or something...

That is horrible that they are taking advantage of her! I would speak to them with DH without your MIL around and let them know you know the deal. Maybe letting them know you realize they are taking advantage of her will get them to back off

OMG! what nerve! you husband should confirm this with your MIL. If this is true then YES! talk to the tennants on this matter. this is just unbelievable! ugh! the poor woman has to go through taking care of some grubbers like that. i hope this gets resolved.
