Please help I have been the victim of Identity theft and is ruining my credit and my life!!
Dh and I were looking into refinincing our mortgage and I just found out that some one has been using my name and ssn to open up an online shopping account and a t mobile account nad its in collections- so in turn we cannot get our super low rate we were orginally quoted and my once good credit score is in the toliet-- Im sooo scared has anyone gone thru this-- I feel like Im going insane with anxiety right now. Im doing research online about how to take care of this

I had soemthing similar- Experian mixed me up with someone else with the same maiden name as me. So this person in MD who works at Boston Chicken has defaulted on her car loans and credit cards and it got itnertwined with my credit. 
What I did was call the company and they went through all my old addresses and took off any bills that didn't go to one of my addresses. It was such a PITA, but I beleive it is all fixed now.

i would call the 3 major credits brueaus and flag your SSN (all new apps have to be approved to be ran by you or DH)
i would call the companies with the fraud activities and report it there as well so they can shut it down and investigate it...
you should be able to get something from them stating it is fraud and it can go into the process of being fix...if so, creditors should hold it against while you apply for new things

same thing happened to my dad. He conatcted experian and they notifed the 2 other credit agencis. Also notify SS office. Also have a credit hisory report sent you either by fax or e-mail. It will take some work but it will get resolved. Once it is resolved then make sure you get a letter from the credit agency you have been a victim of identity theft.

this happened to me as well and took a whole to clear up. i had cell phone, beepers, verizon phone bills, departmetn stores, you name it!! first of all, request your credit report from the 3 major credit companies, experian, equifax and transunion. then go through it with a fine tooth comb. call them with any fraudulent use that you see, accounts that you never opened. they might request that you fill out a police report, i had to do this also. that is where is would start. call the companies and say you never opened the accounts. they sometimes send you an affadavit to fill out. i had a lot of companies having me in collections, it is a pain to straighten out. but be patient and follow the companie instructions on how to clear this up. it will clear up!

You should absolutely contact the 3 major credit bureaus as Babyboy posted and put a "Credit Fraud Alert" under your name. You should also ask them to send you a copy of your report and you can go through it. You can also contact Federal Credit Bureau.
That is the worst that can happen to anyone....Good Luck.....

Ive been hearing alot about this lately. I had a letter from tachers federal last month regarding problems as well. There has to be a better system.
