Question about BC and Pregnancy - UPDATE

Hi Ladies -

I lurk here, DH and I are not quite ready to TTC yet, but I have a question, that I'm sure has been asked before, but I can't find anything:

Is it possible to get pg while on the pill? I've been on the pill for over a year, and have been regular like clockwork. Even when I wasn't on the pill I could tell you the date and time down to the seconds when AF would appear. I have NEVER gone off schedule with my cycle. In any event, AF should have made an appearence last night and she has not arrived yet. I also haven't had any of my pre AF symptoms this week. Is it too soon for me to start freaking out about it? Should I give it another day or so, and is it too early to test? AF usually hangs around for 3 days.

You can test today if you were due last night. There have been a few people I know that have gotten pregnant while on the pill. I would test maybe just to ease your mind because our minds can really play tricks on us and delay af if your thinking to much about it. HTH

My sis got pg on the pill but she was taking antibiotics and didnt use a backup method

I believe that there is a 1% chance of it happening... so it is possible...

Both my mom and my sister got PG while taking the pill.

It is very possible and I've heard about it several times, especially if you are missing days and/or don't take it at the same time every day.

I would test now and every 2 days until AF shows or you missed 1 week and if AF still hasn't showed, I'd call the Dr.

ETA: If you were sick or had taken antibiotics last month it could also increase the probability of being PG.

Still no sign of AF. I'll give it until tomorrow and then test.

Even though DH and I discussed TTC and waiting until after the new year to try, we'd welcome and be overjoyed with a happy accident.

I was warned by me DR that antibiotics could render the pill ineffective when he first put me on it. (I am sure there are other ways, I just don't know them.)

You can also stop getting your period while on the pill. I found that my periods got A LOT lighter after I'd been on it for a few years. My sister actually stopped getting hers for a while. She ended up going off of it, still didn't get it and then was put on provera. She's back on the pill now, without any problem.

Also- while I was still on the pill in April, I went to Italy. I ended up getting AF very late and it was the lightest I ever had it. Traveling and changing time zones can also affect it.

AF decided to show up this afternoon just as I was on my way out the door to pick up a HPT. I do have mixed feelings about it though, which surprised me.
