Wisdom Teeth

Just got back from the Dentist and he wants me to get my wisdom teeth removed. They are not impacted but he said they should come out anyway.

I am so scared...he said that it shouldn't hurt because they are not impacted and that I probaly won't have to be put under. Is this true??? I'm scared Chat Icon

Re: Wisdom Teeth

I had all of mine taken out without being under. I heard they are more gentle when you are awake, so the chances of swelling are less. Three of mine were out in about 20 mins...The forth took 2 hours. Chat Icon The pain wasn't too too bad...The painkillers made me sick, so I just took Advil.

Re: Wisdom Teeth

I had one taken out last week, it was growing horizontally. Chat Icon It only took about 10 minutes, and there was a lot of pulling and yanking, but no pain at all.

I was pretty sore when the Novocaine wore off, but a Tylenol took care of it.

If you get novocaine you won't feel pain, just the pressure when they yank it out. You won't feel pain til the novocaine wears out.

I had novacaine (sp) and laughing gas. So, no pain at all during the procedure.

Re: Wisdom Teeth

I don't understand - why do they take them out if they aren't impacted?

Mine weren't impacted but my mouth is too small to have them--they shifted all the other teeth and were growing into one another.

Re: Wisdom Teeth

I had my wisdom teeth out last year and I had a really positive experience... I did not get put out for it, just novacaine...You don't feel any pain while they are extracting your teeth....Afterwards, I had no swelling and only a bit of stinging after I took my first sip of water once the novacaine wore off...You are going to be ok!!!Chat Icon

In my case, only one set had to come out and that was because one was not in good shape. They took the one on the that grows on top of it because wisdom teeth never stop growing so it would grow down into my lower jaw and cause problems. The wisdom teeth on my right side are healthy and still in.

Right I think I understand what you wrote, when you get 1 wisdom tooth taken out on 1 side you are suppose to do both top and bottom of that side. what happens if you dont is that either the top or bottom whichever one you left in will whats called super erupt. All of our teeth will do this not just the wisdom tooth, but with the wisdom tooth you are more likely to having TMJ problems if you leave 1 in on the same side.
Now if you still have 2 on the other side thats fine, as long as you have room for them , they are healthy and they arent sitting on your jaw bone.

I had all 4 taken out badly impacted, I was knocked out for them, if you get knocked out PLEASE go to an oral surgeon who also works in a hospital. very important god forbid something goes wrong. If you use novicaine you will be fine. they will give you rx for pain killer, you prob wont need it. Good Luck!Chat Icon
