So my sister fell down the side of a mountain in Aruba...

She is 35 yrs old and met some guy and decided that she wanted to have a picnic on this mountain. Well, her and this guy were climbing the mountain holding food and wine and they both fell.

She bruised her back a little but is fine. But she decided to stay in Aruba until she is feeling better.Chat Icon

I am so angry at her for being so irresponsible!! Andrew's Baptism is this weekend and she is the godmother. She doesn't even know if she will make it home in timeChat Icon

(of course I wouldn't be AS angry if she really got hurt)

Thanks for letting me ventChat Icon

I am sorry your sister got hurt, But I would tell her if she does make it home in time for the christening you are going to give that privilege to someone Else!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Hope she feels better soon and gets home. If she doesnt make it home, I'd probably be a little annoyed too.
Im also sitting here saying to myself "accidents happen" but they probably should not have tried to carry so much up a mountain, or maybe they should have used a back pack.

I don't see any legitimate reason why she shouldn't be home by next weekend. I would hope that she wouldn't "use" her accident for selfish reasons. Chat Icon

I agree - her injuries don't sound too serious. I hope she comes through for you and makes it home.

No she said it was some mountain in the desert near where this guy lives.

Now she told my parent's that this guy want's her to live there with him and she is really considering it.

This is getting worse and worseChat Icon

FYI: I never got along with my sister and this isn't helping the situationChat Icon

I would seriously consider another godmother. I would be so hurt.

Can I ask why you chose her if you don't get along?

She is my only sibling and I knew I had to pick her or else my parent's and she would be soo hurt. And I figured if we do start to get along down the line I would regret not picking her.

I am very close to my SIL but I just coudln't pick her for my first child over my own sibling.Chat Icon Even though I really wanted to.

I saw SIL is your backup if your sister doesn't show. I hate to say it but with the new info that she may move there - it doesn't sound like a back injury that's preventing her from flying.

If she doesn't make it home, I would not think twice about choosing your SIL, who it sounds like you really wanted in the first place. Who cares who is hurt by your choice? You're going to be hurt if she chooses to stay there for someone she just met. Chat Icon

I would pick your SIL over your sister. Who cares if you hurt her feelings? She's clearly not worried about hurting yours!

And who decides to live with a stranger on a foreign country while on vacation? Chat Icon

I'm sorry! Pick someone else...please...this person should have a positive influence in your kids life and should care about them as if they were a parent. She doesn't sound this way at all. Go with someone who does!

Re: So my sister fell down the side of a mountain in Aruba...

sorry your sister fell and glad she is ok-

here is my take on godparents- it should come from the heart not whats expected.

if you feel your parents will be upset that you choose your SIL ask them now how they feel that she wants to live there and may not be back in time for the christening.
I wouldnt want someone that irresponsible to be my childs godparent. even if a sibling.
You want a godparent that will be there for your child- rain or shine- not someone who is selfish.

My godparents are siblings 1 each from mom and dad and really they did squat for me growing up and it hurt.
so I chose 2 people who I know would give their heart and soul to our child and told them allready and they are absolutely thrilled and cant wait. ( my brother and my step sister- didnt go with DH only sibling)
