Do I send a thank-you card for a thank-you gift?
I recently took my niece and her best friend (both 17) to the Bahamas. On the plane there the best friend gave me a card and a generous GC from her mom thanking me for taking her daughter. I'm thinking I should send the mom a thank-you, but is that weird being that the gift was a thank-you? ...thank you for saying thank you, no, thank you...

I would love to know what people think on this subject because at the end of the school year, I always get tons of thank you gifts, and I never know if I should send a thank you card!

I am a teacher also and I usually send a thank you for the gifts I get at the end of the year.
As for the Bahamas trip, I would maybe write a little note to the mother telling her that you appreciated the GC.

IMO I say send a little thank you card. If anything, you want to acknowledge that you received it and that you appreciate the gesture. Clearly both the mom and daughter appreciated your gift and wanted to express that. Even if it isn't necessary, I always think it's nice. Plus, whenever I have the opportunity to put my best foot forward I like to take it.

I would send a note thanking her for the present. I would also send the students thnk you notes so that they see people still write them. If your students are old enough you might even want to incorporate a thank you note exercise after the holiday season. The kids could thank anyone they want for anything they wanted to.

This is what I'd do. It's always nice to know someone appreciated the gesture and took the time to let them know.

I agree. I see it as being a gift, no matter what the reason and therefore should merit a thank you card.

how kind of you to take those girls to the bahamas!!!!! wow
in your situation id the gift card was generous id say "i received the gift card- it was extremely unnecessary but very much appreciated..your daughter is a very nice girl and it was my pleasure to have her accompany us on the trip"
or something like that
