Ohh...advice please re: long car ride with the baby

We live about an hr from the airport...it can be as much as 2 1/2 hrs with traffic. My mother is coming in on Monday and I have to pick her up.

Should I bring the baby (which means, dragging her all that way ALONE, taking her into the airport, changing her and feeding her while we are there probably and then going all the way home). If she wakes up during the car ride, I'm up a river without a paddle.

Should I let SIL watch her while I drive to the airport and pick her up on the way home?

I'd say leave her with your SIL. It may be hard to time her feedings since you are working with your mom's arrival time.

I would probably say have your SIL watch her. It will be alot easier on you.

Im probably in the minority on this one, but I would take her with me as long as the weather is ok. Most babies will sleep in the car and you have your mom to feed her on the way back if needed. I know if it were me I would be more stressed about rushing to get back to her and would have a hard time leaving her being that young.. However if you feel you could use the alone time and fully trust SIL, then leaving her is a good option too.

I think it might be less stressful for you to leave her with SIL. I can't even remember my first car ride alone with Miranda, even a short one. I know it was quite a while.

I say leave her with SIL, pick out some CD's, turn up the radio and enjoy the time to yourself. I live for baby free car rides!

I also feel that you should take her along. But Andrew never left my side when he was so small...

Try the Podee in case you need to feed her. That's how I handled long car rides with Maddie.

I would take her. Feed her before you go & she should be fine for the 3-4 hours. Plus I'm sure your Mom wants to see her right away.

Why don't you ask SIL to come with you? That way you have help.

Re: Ohh...advice please re: long car ride with the baby

i would take her she will probably sleep in the car. You dont have to go to the airport. What I do is go to the airport and wait for my parents to call then just pull up and they come out. There is usually a spot where the limos and other people wait for the phone call on the side. Granma will want to see ALy but do what is easier for you. Its only 1 way then your mom will sit with her in the back

I would personally take her with you. Babies sleep in cars usually. Besides if your mom is coming off a plane, she either lives far away or has been away for a while and is probably dying to see her grandaughter.

I would not take her...JMO...I don't see any need to bring an infant to the airport with so many colds/flus etc...your mom can see her the minute she walks thru the door.

This is exactly what I was going to say. My pediatrician said NO enclosed public places for a while and my son is 2 mos.
