We couldn't believe our ears
DH and I went food shopping and as we were waiting for the elevator, there was a woman in front of us with a kid, about 5-7 years old. He stopped to tie his shoe in the door way, she was behind him with the cart and she yells to him "Move it!!! Simpleton." in such a mean way.
DH and I look at each other in disbelief. When we got on the elevator, DH was like "those are some really harsh words. She's going to have one F'ed up kid" I couldn't believe someone would be so verbally mean to their kid. She definately could have told him in a nicer manner not to stop in the door right in front of her.
I know there are children that get verbally and physically abused, but to see it is really heartbreaking.

It is hard to see it! and what worries me is that is what they do in public, imagine the things they say/do at home!

That's EXACTLY what I said to DH!
One day, also while food shopping, I heard a mom tell her 3 or 4 year old daughter, "will you stop or I'm going to punch you"

This is very heartbreaking to see and parents that do this do not know the emotional damage that they are doing to their children. Do you watch SuperNanny? She had a mom just like that yesterday. She had 7 children and obviously not in control of what was going on in her household or with her children. The children curse, were aggressive towards each other..the house was dirty...it was truly a mess!
When she saw herself in the video she realized that she's the one that has to take the first step. People do not realize how much role modeling takes place with children. They were acting and behaving the same way they saw their mom doing it.

I hear them all the time and feel so bad for them. I especially hate when the parents are ignoring the child until they really step out of line and then they yell at them. Maybe if the parents were parenting the whole time, the kid woudn't have done what he/she did.

it bothers me when people talk like that to their kids - i can onl;y pray i never become like that with my own....i guess someitmes it can be frustrating and all but still, there is no excuse for making a child feel bad like that!
