A question for BF'ing moms...(Warning TMI)

I am full of questions today.

I have been Bf'ing DD since she was born (she is 11 days old). Today my nipples are hurting and and they are tingling. Is this normal? I left a message with the LC at the hospital but the are gone for the day. Is this the beginning of matisis??? God, I hope not. Chat Icon
What is this? I am freaking out because a breast infection is THE LAST thing I need right now.

I see my OB for an incision check tomorrow...Should I mention this to him?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got that feeling to in the begining, my breast feeding book said it was my milk coming in and I could get a sensation in my nipples. I wouldn't worry, if it really continues or starts to hurt you then I would call your Dr, or just mention it to him tommorrow, to be on the safe side.

Doesn't sound like mastisis to me. Mention what you are feeling to your OB. I haven't heard of tingling before, but it doesn't sound scary to me. Your doctor will be able to look and see if there is any damage (which is very common in the beginning!)

But my milk already came in. When I feed her the first 30 seconds...OUCH!! Then, it is not painful. The sensation comes and goes kinda feels itchy.
Is this what you felt?

Yes, even when my milk was in I would get that same feeling, It was like my boobs were telling me I should feed her again, then it would go away. The first couple of seconds killed then it got better. IMO, Its just an adjustment for you boobs, so you are going to feel a lot of sensations going on. If you feel a lot of pain with bumbs in your breast or red marks that is usually a sign of infection (clogged milk ducts), I wouldnt worry!

OMG! THANK YOU for responding so quickly to my post! I really started to freak out. Chat Icon
I have no red marks or bumps, so I guess it is just my body adjusting. I feel so much better now.

I got that feeling at the beggining. I felt like many needles and it hurt and the first 30 seconds when I was feeding my baby I felt a lot of pain. It went away after 20 days/ a month. I wouldn't worry.

If you were getting matsis you would be VERY sick..you have a fever and your breasts can feel like they are on fire..and have real pain..not just a tingle. This is just your body adjusting..you are doing greatChat Icon
