Need help with decision-update

Ok,
I am sure you can all figure out that I am interested in TTC. I post on here too often for someone who isnt interested. LOL
However, DH is not ready yet, which I totally respect and I am willing to wait. BUT...I have been on the pill for 9+ years and I really want to stop taking it. I dont react well to the pill, I get dizzy each month, and sick to my stomach. I want to stop taking it. DH is okay with that, because he knows I dont feel well on the pill, but then we run the risk of getting PG when he is not ready. So girls, what would you do? Stay on the pill till DH is ready, or give your body a break?
HELP!
Christy

Re: Need help with decision

If you're thinking of getting pg in the next year I would come off. It took my body a few months to get back to a somewhat normal cycle.

Best of luck to you.

I wanted to come off the pill last year but my DH was not ready for kids. He kept telling me it will happen right away after going off the pill. We have been trying for 3 months and nothing yet. I also have become irregular which makes things worse. When DH is ready..your body might not be!

Re: Need help with decision

You can stop taking the pill and use condoms until you are ready. I myself hate using them but it would help your body to prepare for when you are ready to TTC

Re: Need help with decision

I would go off of it to prepare your body for TTC (it took me 6 months to get a regular cycle back) and if your DH is not ready yet, make sure you use protection when you guys do the deed Chat Icon

You can also use OPKs to find out when NOT to have sex LOL...although most of us on that board would never attempt that Chat Icon

Re: Need help with decision

I went off the pill the month after we got married because I wanted to get my body ready, even though we were not actively TTC!!! I was on it for 9 years too.

We used condoms till we were ready to try and we also used them between the miscarriage and when we were ready to try again at our 1 yr.

Re: Need help with decision

Thanks so much for all of the advice. I have decided to stay on the pill for at least this month (maybe a few more). Dh said it was okay with him if I stopped, but he looked completely freaked out at the same time. I think he thinks this will mean we are TTC. Even though I explained that I would just be giving my body a break from the hormones. So, we'll see how this month goes. I really want to stop. Maybe in a month I can. Chat Icon

Re: Need help with decision-update

I went off BCPs a few months before we were ready to start TTC. And I'm glad I did because my cycles became wacky. I used those months to learn about my body, so that when we were ready to TTC, I wasn't wasting time.

Considering BCPs are affecting you so negatively, I would stop them, and use other means of BC (we used condoms until we were ready)

Re: Need help with decision-update

I just went through the same thing w/my DH. Last year I told him I was going to be coming off the pill the following year because I wanted to have children and I also hated the affect bcps had on me. He was still in his freaking out phase so I told him if he is the one not ready to TTC then it was going to be his responsiblity to use some kind of birth control. Lo and behold I came off the pill 6 weeks ago and now he's changed his tune. We did the pull and pray method for the first couple of weeks and now he's cozing up to the idea of babies so we are throwing caution to the wind!

ETA: I have never felt so good after coming of bcp (I was on them for 6 years) It was the best decision I made!
