My letter to the editor in our local paper....
Just wanted to share...
A Heartbreaking Loss
This past weekend I had to tell my 4 1/2-year-old son that his dearly beloved cat was now in heaven and not coming home. It broke my heart to see him so upset.
What really broke my heart was that someone driving down our road did that to a member of our family, and didn’t have the common decency to stop and help another living thing. They kept driving and left her to suffer until we found her.
After a day of worrying, searching, putting up signs and talking to neighbors, we finally found her. Unfortunately, it was too late. What worries me even more on West Neck Road, as I watch the children every day that bike, walk and skateboard down this winding road, is the constant excessive speeding and ignoring of stop signs. I just pray that next time this doesn’t happen to a child.
Slow down, PLEASE! And to whomever did not have the common decency or compassion to stop for our cat—shame on you for breaking a little boy’s heart!

That is so sad, I am so sorry for your cat......I hope your letter is published. How horrible for someone to do that and not even stop

It was published last week... It was soo heartbreaking because my son had that kitty since he was only a year or so old.... it was the sweetest thing in the world and she loved the kids!! I had to make some horrible decisions that night at the emergency vet and I don't ever want to do that again!

I read that when I was at home Columbus Day Weekend!
So sorry about your kitty! The same thing happened to a friend of mines dog in Watermill a few years back!

Our pets are like our children, and if you are blessed to have a dog or cat wih a human nature, it is so hard to see them go. Mu hubby and I still cry about the loss of our wonderful old man a yellow lab who was our firstborn furry-child. and to you and your family.

What a sad situation. I am so sorry. Good for you though for speaking up. Some people are so incredibly insensitive.
