I personally do. It really disgusts me that we claim to be a free country where everyone can make their own decisions in life, but we won't allow same-sex couples to be able to get married and enjoy the benefits of being married....tax breaks, benefits, etc.

I know of at least 2 same-sex couples that have better and longer relationships then some of my heterosexual couple friends.

I just don't get it.

What are your opinions on it?

2 of our friends just had twin girls last year and I'll tell you that there is more love in that family than in most "conventional" families! I don't see why they cannot be married and have the same rights!

I am unsure about this topic

Not because i don't think that two consenting gay adults should be allowed to get married

But i am fearful that this will open the door to other requests that i do not feel is appropriate...

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?

I'm all for it...I believe that if a same sex couple deserves the right to be protected by the same laws as married couples...God forbid something happens to one partner.

I'm happy that many insurance policies have regonized same sex couples, but its still not 100%...but if they were allowed to marry legally...then the rest of the insurance companies would have to follow suit and cover same sex partners in the same manner that they would cover Hetrosexual Married couple.

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?

i will be brief

i'm not against gays being together. Plus, I think they should receive the same rights as married couples.

I AM against the term "marriage" when it comes to gay couples. Call it a partnership, a union, a commitment or whatever. But, I believe the term marriage should be reserved for men and women.

Yes. All for it. I see nothing wrong with it, and I don't feel it would lessen the "sanctity" of my marriage in any way.

I would have to agree w/ you Don. I see nothing wrong w/ this but the term "marriage" should not be used.

i mean, maybe religion clouds my thinking on this, but in my eyes, gay couples are different.

Yes, they are entitled to the same rights as everyone else, but the term to which we refer to the union should reflect that difference.

although I understand your point...I fear that by not using the term "Marriage"...then insurance companies will attempt to find ways around covering same sex parteners.

Don, Sonia ... what is your definition of marriage? I'm just curious because I never really thought about the "definition" of marriage before.

As for me, I am 100% for legally joining together - use whatever phrase you want - commitment, marriage, etc ...

Marriage is the union of two people. To me marriage is one of the fundamenatl structures in our society. I don't feel the tern "marriage" or a married cople should be applied when it comes to same sex marriages. I too like Don, feel that I associate marriage w/ relion and the biblical sense of the word.

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?

like i said, i am a devout Catholic

so, admittedly, i have a bias.

That doesn't make me right, it just means that you can't change a person's thinking on a subject that has been ingrained for 30 years.

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?

I also feel same sex marriages should be legal. In regard to opening doors for future problems when this becomes legal, I dont think not making it legal is going to stop any future problems from occuring. The world is far from perfect and personally, right now the reason I think it is not being legalized is because of judgements based on others moral AND INSURANCE reasons for sure! We are BASICALLY all New Yorkers give or take a few people on here. Go south, midwest, etc...they totally do not agree with legalizing gay marriages. I dont know that I think it will be approved. I would like to see it approved but I just dont think so.
