Not TTC yet...BUT should I start taking FOlic Acid now??
Just wondering...I would say atleast a year away from TTC (and hopefully you will be on the pregnancy and parenting boards by then   ) BUT should I start taking Folic Acid now???

Taking a multi-vitamin with 400mcg of folic acid couldn't hurt!

My Dr. told me to start taking the prenatals w/ folic acid once I stop taking the pill (even if we are not trying) BUT I also heard that your body does not store/build up folic acid so there might not be any reason to take it iso far in advance.

Oh ok...thanks. I was under the impression that it stored it. Is there any other advantage or reason to take folic acid besides TTC??

I was told that any woman of child bearing years should be taking folic acid whether they are TTC or not - best bet is to ask your doctor.

I asked my Dr. what I could do to prepare for TTC almost 2 years before we were ready. He said to take a multi vitamin every day with 400 mcg of folic acid.

Well, 400 mcg folic acid you could take now, that is probably in your regular vitamin. I meant you should wait until you are TTC to take an additional 400 mcg for a total of 800 mcg.

I think if you just take a multi vitamin with 400 mg you should be ok. maybe start with 800-1000 mg when you're a few months away from TTC
