AAGGHHH...going for my first internal tomorrow
I am so nervous and SO not looking forward to being violated!!! Getting the Strep test too. (where is the emoticon where he sticks his toungue out in disgust??)

Ya know, you dont HAVE to have an internal. They arent an indication of impending labor. You could be not dilated for weeks then go into labor or you could be 3cm already and wait 5 weeks to have a baby.

I know...but I'd rather know if something is going on down there than not. Just the fact that my dad coming down here is depending on my labor is a HUGE deal for me. I can't wait to see him again.

Couldn't agree more. I had one at 37 weeks only because they thought I might have to be induced. I didn't have anymore until I was 5 days overdue and in labor. It just wasn't worth it to me to get myself worked up for nothing. Trust me you'll know when something real is happening.

Good luck!! If your Dr is gentle, you'll be fine. Mine wasn't  .
Just don't get your hopes up or you'll walk out of there a little dissappointed if you haven't progressed. Just remember, it doesn't mean anything if you haven't dilated or effaced!
ETA: Whatever happens in the next couple of weeks - don't let them "strip your membranes"... ugh, painful as all hell, makes you bleed and doesn't speed up going into labor at all...
