For the Billy Joel Fans on the Board

Jax knows this already, but:

Today at 2PM (and every Sunday thereafter) on Long Island's 90.3FM, we are launching “Piano Man." This is a one-hour radio program devoted to the music of the Piano Man himself, Billy Joel.

We believe that this is the first Billy Joel program of its kind, and given that he’s “Long Island’s own Billy Joel,” we find it particularly fitting. The show, like all others on WHPC 90.3FM, is totally commercial-free and no one makes a dime from it. WHPC is owned by Nassau County, so given Mr. Joel’s Centre Island home, the Piano Man’s taxes actually help pay for the station.

The show itself will feature studio album tracks, live album tracks and Billy covers—either Billy covering other artists’ songs or other artists covering Billy’s songs. We also hope to make use of whatever "nuggets" that his record company will provide to us. And, every show will feature a song played on vinyl. The show will also include listener dedications/requests and a chance for listeners to describe "what Billy's music means to me." And, there will be interviews with bandmates, music journalists and hopefully, Billy himself. Mr. Joel’s recent record-breaking run at Madison Square Garden showed that his fan base spans generations, so we hope that our little program resonates with listeners.

Behold the idiosyncratic nature of FM signals, what can't be picked up in Queens can be picked up in New Rochelle. Rest assured, that cars in Queens can pick it up with no problem. As the holidays approach, you'll have to drive to the mall :)

Reminder: We're on today from 2PM to 3PM on Nassau County's 90.3FM.

But, more importantly, Billy Joel will be appearing on the Today show this Friday (the 22nd) with Tony Bennett as part of their Toyota concert series.

Just to pass on an FYI, it looks like Billy will be doing at least 5 shows at the Coliseum in December.

We've done some checking out of the dates.

On the 16th, he is playing in Hawaii, so I'm fairly sure that the 17th, 18th and 19th would be needed for some recuperation time from travel.

There are Islander games/other Coliseum events on the 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 26th and the 30th.

So, that leaves the 21st, the 24th (I doubt), the 25th (I strongly doubt), the 27th, the 28th, the 29th and the 31st (which I expect is a definite). 1/1 is also free.
