such as a wedding or shower, do you still give a gift? Is it rude not to?

I usually do send a gift but I don't think it's rude not to.

I usually do, but unless they are a close friend I dont think that it would be rude not to.

It is proper ettiquette to give a gift for a wedding, even if you are not attending, but it is nto neccessary for a shower, but I always do. And I think everyone that coudln't make mine sent a gift too.

For other things, birthday's graduations, etc, it really depends on the person & situation.

As per my etiquette books, anyone who does not attend a party is not expected to give a gift.

For me, it depends who and what...

This is my take on it too. If it is someone close to me, I give a gift, sometimes even if I am not invited to the event. If it is someone that I barely know, co-worker, friend of a friend, I don't always give a gift. If I get the invite and think "why the heck was I invited to this event?" I don't send a gift.

I would send a gift, yes, but not for the full amount you would give if you had gone.

I always get a gift, I feel if your invited and cant go its very rude if you dont get the person a gift. I had that happen to me a few times, I was very upset!
