spinoff- have others told people you're pregnant?

My MIL has told just about everyone that we're pregnant and I'm rather annoyed. #1) we didn't want everyone to know so soon- at the very least until our first u/s which is this week. #2) I don't really feel it was her place to share OUR wonderful news. We're not going to be able to surprise anyone in DH's family because they all already know. The one we're most upset about is DH's grandparents. It's not even his mother's parents and I'm really angry that she told them. DH and I were excited to share this news, especially with them because they're older and we knew how happy this would make them.

ets- just to make it clear, we specifically asked her NOT to tell anyone. We told her we would tell people ourselves when we were ready and when I was a little further along.

Yes, my mother told my ENTIRE family. Immediate and extended and I was really upset. It's the first grandchild on my side and I wanted to be the one to share the excitement. Whatever, I got over it, but it still annoyed me.

We told my parents and siblings last night. we swore them to secrecy, but my mom and dad are busting to tell people. I said not until I at least go to the Dr. first. But, I have a feeling the whole family will know before next Thursday.

My MIL told everyone right away too. Including a friend of DH's. Totally not her place. I told DH that in the future, I'm going to have to censor what I tell her bc I do not want the universe knowing my business.

We decided that the next time around, we aren't going to tell his parents until we're ready to tell the whole extended family ourselves.

Did you ask them not to tell anyone? If you didn't, as much as it s*cks, you really can't get mad at them for telling.

If you asked them not to tell and they did anyway, that's another story...and now you know you have to keep things from them until you want them made public.

We would up having to tell our parents earlier then our other immediate family do to me not drinking wine at a wine dinner they had.

We swore them to secrecy and i made it very apparent i would be very hurt if they told anyone in the family. However, i did allow MIL to tell her neighbors and friends only. My Mom didn't want to tell anyone so early so she was all good.

Amazingly no one found out till we told them!

my parents were bursting to tell people. I held them off as long as possible, but they still let it slip to people when they didn't think I'd mind (mom's co-workers, neighbors, etc). They didn't spread the news to family until I gave them the ok.

This aggravates me This is YOUR pregnancy and YOUR good news to tell when YOU are ready, not her... People ought to respect your wishes! I hope DH puts her in her place! I am sorry you had to deal with that nonsense

yes, we told MIL then SPECIFICALLY asked that she not tell my stepson (DH's son) so we could... well guess what she did .. she jumped right on that damn phone, called DH's EX and the EX told the son!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say, we are not speaking, nor do I plan on it anytime soon.

but yes, i have had one more person tell people WE wanted to tell. i think it's rude and very obnoxious for those people to think it's ok to spread other peoples news.

we've only told immediate family and a few friends. MIL is upset that we swore her to secrecy and cant wait to make "her" announcement. DH tore her a new one and told her its our announcement to make when we are ready.

Told a friend and asked her not to tell anyone. Went to her family party a few weeks ago adn EVERYONE knew. i was really annoyed.

My MIL did the same thing when we told her. I didnt get to tell anyone on DH side. They already knew. When i asked his mother why she told everyone and that i was upset, she said, Oh sorry i couldnt help it

This is one of the reasons why I waited. My mom & my MIL would tell people & tell them to pretend they didn't know. It's just too big of a piece of news to keep - and I knew they couldn't do it.

I agree it should be your news to share.

Since you specifically told her not to tell others then it is wrong, and I would be annoyed too.

I think I am in the minority here, but I was glad that my MIL and my aunt spred the news to our families. We both have big families, and I really didn't want to be calling everybody to tell them our news, as if we were the first people to get PG. It also saved me from alot of phone calls and then I was sure that I didn't leave anybody out.
