I am only 5'4" and I have a crib where the side does not go down. I figured that when she gets big enough I probably won't be laying down a sleeping baby and if I need to lay her down and she is sleeping I can get my husband to do it or use a step stool..lol

I'm 5'4 and just yesterday DH put something up on the side of the crib so that the side wouldn't go down. I fed Alex, rocked her to sleep and when I tried to put her in her crib, I almost dropped her because I could barely reach!  She woke up startled and upset, and off I was again to rock her to sleep. IMO, choose function over fashion because you have nooooooooooo idea how important it is to lay your baby to sleep soundly and quietly if you have (god forbid) one that ends up having sleep problems!

I'm 5'2 and can barely get my baby down gently with a drop side -- I think you'll regret getting a crib with a stationary side. When you have a sleeping baby in your arms and want to get some sleep yourself you are not going to care what the crib looks like.

I am almost 5'7" and I needed the drop side. I cant imagine not having it. Just think without it you wont be able to reach in and kiss your baby.

I am 5'2 and have a stationary crib, it is a PITA. We lowered it once and I have to stand on my tippy toes so I can put him in the crib. Not to mention it is a real annoyance to change the crib sheet, I have to lift the mattress out completely before changing it.

I have one that is stationary too. My mother warned me about getting it but I didn't listen. So far it's not a huge problem but I can for see 2 problems coming. We are about to lower it to the lowest setting and I think then might be an issue. The other is if I was to get pregnant again I don't know how I would lift her as far in as I do now with a belly in the way.
