Swollen feet/ankles

Since I went back to work last week my feet and ankles are suddenly swollen to the max. I'm a teacher so I'm on my feet all day. They weren't like this at ALL the rest of the summer, they were so normal. It's to the point that by the end of the evening I can barely even wiggle my toes.

And I wake up in the AM and it's pretty much the same.

I try elevating my feet but it's very uncomfortable to lay on my back and laying on my side it doesn't quite work right.

I am drinking PLENTY of water.

What else can I do? I gained 4 lbs this week at the doc's and I swear it's because I'm retaining water. I'm so busy at work it's definately not that I'm eating a lot or snacking because I have barelly even had the chance to eat a sandwich let alone anything else.

I'm only 17 weeks and havent' come across this problem yet. I too am a teacher and I just know not being able to sit down will kill me later on in the pregnancy and cause me to swell. It really su*cks not being able to sit. All my friends that are teachers and preggo have the same problem. They were told to cut out salt, but I don't think it helped them at all. Sorry you are going threw this!

Laying on your left side and elevating your feet does work, but I agree, it can be quite uncomfortable.

Watch your salt intake.

Some natural diuretics:

Cucumbers
Pineapple
Watermelon
My new favorite (but ask OB since it's an herb) dandelion tea. Or any form of dandelion, actually.

Re: Swollen feet/ankles

Thanks for the suggestions! I can't do the pineapple and watermelon since fruits are off limits according to my nutritionist sicne I have GD, but I can try the cucumbers.

Last night I tried a cold towel on my feet and although it felt good, it didn't really do much.

my friend got a stool when she was preggo in my school...maybe you can ask for one? they should be accomodating.

also my midwife suggested putting a pillow under your right butt cheek when you get home.

Re: Swollen feet/ankles

Warm water, only a little, less than a cup, with lemon juice.. Enough to make it foggy-- This helped me drop some of the excess water.. Its worth a shot! Good LucK!

Also I would check with your doctor. I thought it could be an indicator of high blood pressure? Massaging my ankles worked for me - when I could reach them.

Re: Swollen feet/ankles

what about soaking them in epsom salt? I know for sports injuries, to reduce swelling, my stepbrother would do this
