was the Chernobyl nuclear accident.

You would.
It is about all the children born after the accident, who have so many things wrong with them. Heart problems, born without eyes, etc. Its awful.

I was 8 years old and have no recollection of it. Yet I remember the Challenger disaster about a year later.

Yes, I remember, I was in high school.
I teach world history and we just went over the Chernobyl accident before the break.

That is one of the most moving and haunting documentaries I have ever seen
to all the victims of this tragedy.
