Re: how long can they stay in the infant carrier?

Hi, this is the first time I have posted in the parenting board. I bought my son a new carseat when he was 4 1/2 months old (he was a big baby). At his 4 month check up he was 27'' and 17lbs. If I went by the carseats recommadations he could have stayed in it a little longer but he just seemed to hate being put in the little seat. Once I bought a new carseat he started to enjoy car rides again.

Re: how long can they stay in the infant carrier?

My other carseat was 5-40lbs... so I switched Ryan about 2 weeks ago...

He was pulling himself forward and trying to "sit up"- so I figured it was time for the new seat...Plus- the carrier was just getting to be too much to lug around...

The transition went very well!

We had to move Andrew to his convertible Britax Marathon at 4 months old. I wish I had him in the infant seat longer, but he was a big boy and hit both the height and weight restrictions at that age.

Our seat was only good until 26" so we had to move her around 6 months. It was actually easier, the infant seat was getting so heavy!

Emily's seat goes up to 29 inches so she still fits in it but it is getting so insanely heavy. We are hopefully buying the Britax soon since we didn't get it on the registry!

Last weigh in both my girls were 14.5 lbs. So they are getting heavy. But, it's so much easier!!

then I must be a weakling too, cause I'm ready to switch him over at almost 4 months..it is WAY TOO heavy at this point..my son is a little over 27 inches already and I'm gonna guess at least 16 lbs..not sure until our next visit though..

I personally would find it alot easier then lugging that heavy seat around..Chat Icon

Well as long as you get a car seat that is 5lbs and up, then you could make the switch...

Don't rush out of the carrier -- if she falls asleep you can take her with you. In the regular car seat you'd wake her up getting out. I've spent way too much time reading in the front seat of my car when she falls asleep so she can finish the nap.

I just switched Hailey over to the regular car seat - I don't know what she weighs (weigh in is Wednesday) - but her in the carrier was getting WAYYYYYY to heavy. I have the Graco Snug ride and it weighs a ton.
Zachary is smaller than her so he'll be in the carrier a while longer.

I just put Julia in the regilar carseat. She'll be 8 months this week. She's about 19 lbs and 28 inches. The copt who installed it said I should have moved her 4 lbs ago!

My height limit was 26" which Kevin hit at his 3.5 mo visit. Since he still had lots of room and wasn't hanging over - I moved him the end of the 4th month/beginning of his 5th month - he was over 18lbs by then and it was getting to heavy to lug around.
