How many weeks question

oaky so I was reading up on MSN and it mentioned what to expect every week of pregnancy. So when someone says they are 4 weeks that means they just pretty much found out right, meaning the first week you get your period is week one. I always thought you started coun ting from when you didnt get your period.

so cool there is so much out there that I didnt knwo that I am learning through research and of course you guys.

yea..u got it...its starts from the 1st day of your last period, that is wk 1.

I never understood that cause technically..well for me..ovulation occurred and that was 2wks after AF
But, the docs seem to know and are pretty close or on the nose with the EDD.

What they do is ask your last period start date...say June 1. They then add one week/7 days and 9 months to get your due date of February 8th. Granted, it's nearly impossible to be pregnant at the date they give you as some people still have AF hanging around...this is just the mathematical game they created to have a standard. So really a full term pregnancy will be less than 40 real weeks...but this is what they've been using for a long time and likely won't change it to make more sense....mostly because everyone ovulates at a different time.

Wow---I never knew this---I thought they count if from the day you may have ovulated!!
