How much maternity clothing do I need?

I don't know what has come over me, but since I took the plunge into maternity clothes shopping, I keep wanting to buy more. I am a clothes horse and I have SO much clothing that I am used to wearing.

I know I can't have as many maternity clothes as I do regular clothes. It doesn't make sense.

What I am wondering if how much maternity clothes did you buy?

So far I have

one chino skirt
one denim skirt
two pairs of work pants with a demi panel
one pair of work pants with no panel but elastic back (I call them the beginner pants)
one pair of jeans
three sweaters
three tees
four camis
two button down shirts


Written down it looks like a lot, but I am afraid I will get tired of wearing the same stuff every week.

How much more do I need? How much is excessive?

I love how I stopped having pregnancy questions and now it is all about the clothes!

I think you have a good start. My advice is to go more frequently rather than buy too much at once. I ended up returning alot b/c of the season change and also once I hit 21 weeks my body starting changing alot. I rather go once a month and add as I grow rather than buy a bunch of stuff and only being able to wear it once or twice.

yes, dont buy too much all at once, it is amazing how quickly you will grwo out of them.
I on the other hand did NOT go overboard with buying matermity clothes. Some was borrowed and I know this will be the only time I get PG, so I didnt want to waste my $$$ on a lot of maternity clothes.

I haven't worn any maternity clothes yet. But everything I bought is fallish (even the tees are fall colors and intended for layering).

Now, another question. How do you outgrow the? Aren't they supposed to grow with your pregnancy? I though the idea of the panel is so they fit you for a while.

I am such a novice.

It all depends on how you carry. My pants so far still fit, but since I'm all belly I had to go up a size in shirts.

It's very hard to judge. By the middle of the summer I had outgrown a lot of my maternity clothes and when I went to buy a few more summer things, the fall stuff was already out in the stores.

Just buy things as you go along and feel the need. I never did one huge shopping splurge, but bought things here and there. I wound up with quite a large maternity wardrobe. At this point I'm due in 6.5 weeks, so I have talked myself out of buying anything else. I figure I have enough to get me through the next couple of weeks. Just to give you a rough idea of what I have...
2 pairs of jeans
7 pairs of pants
2 pairs of capris
denim Bermuda shorts
4 other pairs of maternity shorts (though regular elastic ones still fit too)
3 skirts
10 dresses- ranging from casual every day to out for a nice dinner
8 tops though I probably only wear 2-3 of them (I still wear predomonantly regular tops)
4 maternity sweaters

I thought I had plenty until I got up this morning and had NOTHING to wear! It's so difficult having to buy "nice" shirts for work and regular shirts for everyday. I try to mix them up, but why, oh why is it is difficult?
Plus, most of my stuff is summer so now I have to go back out and do more fall shopping.
I don't think you can ever have "enough". Keep shopping for good sales and I promise - you will wear it!
