How did you tell your parents?

DH and I have been discussing different ways we can surprise our parents with the news...

We are having them over for dinner on Friday night and we were thinking of sort of casually mentioning it over dinner and see how long it takes them to catch on..

or, have our dog run out wearing a Tshirt that says: "Im goign to be a big brother!" written on it...

Nothing very creative... The second I got the test back I called my mom screaming. My family knew that we were testing that night...

We had actually all been otu to dinner with my 17 year old cousin from Paris, but I didn't want him to know. It was so funny. He stayed wtih us for about a week after we found out and my the family kept getting together during the week- and pairs of us kept escaping to the bathroom or to the car to discuss

I love the idea with the dog!!! PLease take a picture of your doggie if ysu decide to do that.

My parents both had tears in there eyes when we told them.

With Sarah we gave them bibs that said "I love Grandma" or "I love Grandpa" and then used a cute diaper pin to attach a note from the baby that said "See you on Feb. 24th! Love, Baby Xxxxx"

This time we put a "I'm going to be a big sister" t shirt on Sarah for Thanksgiving and waited to see how long it took to sink it. It was a lot of fun. Some people got it right away, some people had to think about it.

When we told my parents we went over to my parents house (we said we were in the area) and we were talking to them about all different things. Since my father helped us paint the house when we moved it - my DH thought it would be a good idea to ask my father for help painting again. He said that three rooms needed to be repainted (they didn't think anything - cause they have known I wanted to change the colors that we originally did) so my dad asked which rooms. DH said the kitchen and my father nodded (he hates the color in there too) and then quickly DH said the BABY's room and the Living room. It took him about a good 5 seconds - and they yelled out BABY'S ROOM!

We were able to tell them Christmas morning that Santa had brought us a Christmas Miracle!

We got my inlaws mugs (they are big coffee drinkers) that say Worlds Greatest Grandma and Grandpa. They were shocked when they opened the box. It was priceless!

actually doggielover, me being a doggielover too - just today ordered that t-shirt and plan on having her wear it next week. its pink and says "I'm going to be a big sister".
I did have to include my dog who is so very important to me and our family :)

i LOVE the dog idea... our baileygirl is our firstborn too

for us i was able to tell them the way I had always pictured, on christmas morning i got pink and blue bootie glass ornaments from fortunoffs, wrapped up one of each and gave one set to my parents on christmas eve and one pair to the in laws on christmas day.... It took them a few seconds and they both asked "are you pregnant??" and then in both families, everyone burst into tears! it was really sweet!!!

we went straight to my parents house after the drs appt we had to confirm the at home test. we basically referred to them as grandma and grandpa in the middle of a normal conversation - it took them a min to catch on - then they were freaking out! :) so much fun to tell everyone the big news...

On Christmas eve we gave both sets of parents a baby block picture frame and wrote where the picture would be

It was my parents 30th wedding anniversary and we were meeting them in Paris. We were living in Ireland at the time. So I gave them 2 towels that said I love my Grandma and Grandpa and told them they had to open it at the same time. My mom thought it was some cheesy, I have been with him for 30years gag gift or something. It was great to see their faces, best anniversary present they ever received. I couldn't believe I was able to hold it in for 4 weeks before telling them. I talked to my mom about 3x a week, DH swore I wouldn't make it to Paris, but him thinking I couldn't was all the motivation I needed.

I can't keep anything from my mom and I talk to her ten thousand times a day, so I called her as soon as I saw that positive sign on the pg test (well, about five minutes after I told JT ) and I said, "Mom, don't be mad, but I'm pregnant!"
And her response was, "OMG! Wait, did you just tell me not to be mad? What, are you like 15 or something?! OMG! You're having a baby!"

It was just weird that being pregnant was a good thing. Don't ask, I still feel like a little kid sometimes, so when I got pregnant, I had to stop and think for a second and tell myself, oh, hello, I am grown-up

Adam and I waited until we were 13 weeks until we finally told our families. We invited both sets of parents over for lunch and gave them "a holiday present that came late". I bought 2 picture frames that said "grandma and grandpa's pride and joy' We put a picture of the sono in the frame and had a speech bubble on the sono saying "hi grandma and grandpa! I can't wait to meet you in July". Their reactions were great!
