Speaking of Star and Taxes

We just got our statement of real property taxes, and although we closed in July 2005, it shows that the taxes that were due in December 2005 were still calculated using the previous owners veterans and enhanced star discount. Its showing the same thing for the second half due in May 2006.

It lists our name under tax billing address and our mortgage company, but shows the old owners names under taxable status as of March 2005.

We went and filed our Star a few weeks ago.

Is this going to come back and bite us in the a$$? Anyone know?

I would call and get this straightened out. You DEF do not want this to come back and bite you in the ***.

yes, they (if the town remembers) will charge you a true-up next year. Enjoy the cheap taxes this year, but save up for the difference next year.

That happened to us (this year we are paying on the back taxes).

Although you can try not calling their attention to it, and see if it slips through the cracks (this happened for a co-worker of mine), but chances are they will figure it out anyway..

Well, we pay the correct amt into escrow anyway, in fact, we pay for the amt without any Star into escrow.

In fact, I just looked at our mortgage statement and it shows that this May's payment will make up the difference. Oh well!

same thing happened to us. i called the town and asked why the previous owners name appeared on the bill and they told me it takes time to readjust. they didn't say anything about us being charged the difference but she did say to make sure to apply for STAR by march 1st.
