Giving food to baby in highchair - QUESTION

Just wanted to get your opinion on this.

When I give DD cereal in her highchair - ill usually give her a toy to keep her occupied so that she sits still (most of the time) and eats.

DH disagrees and says when its time to eat - DD should not be playing with her toy.

i can totally understand that because often times she is so occupied we have to fight her to get the food in her mouth because she is playing with her toy or dropping it Chat Icon and oftens times the cereal lands on her head because she keeps turning it to look at her toy Chat Icon

How do you keep your child occupied in the highchair? Do you think I should not be giving DD a toy so she knows that we mean business when its time to eatChat Icon She is 6 months.

Thanks.Chat Icon

I always give my son something to play with. It is usually a spoon so that he can try to teach himself to feed himself.

We generally don't give her a toy to play with but there are times that we have. We usually have given her a spoon to play with and now she uses it to try to feed herself while we're feeding her.

i think it is personal prefrence I know alot of people who gave there babies toys but some of these kids have grown up expecting it when ever they eat to be entertained. I have never done so and he would eat his food and then can go play even now hes 2 and doesnt expect to be entertained. good luck

I tried giving her a spoon and she gagged on it twice - i think ill try it again when she is alittle older.

I bought DD those lil dipper's. They have them at Target. They are right by all the spoons and plates.

They are a great alternative to giving DD a spoon to play with because she gags herself with it too.

I never gave Kevin a toy really. Spoon or sippy cup as he got older. But he was real easy to feed - he was always interested in his food!! Chat Icon Now that he is older and when he is being picky or stubborn - watching tv sometimes distracts him and he'll clear his entire plate!!
