My birth story..(sorry it took a week)
Sorry this has taken a little longer than expected. Today was Jacob's bris and it went well and he was such a trooper!!! So here goes my birth story...
I woke up to go to the bathroom at about 2:30 am to go use the bathroom ( my usual ritual during the past nine months) and then went back to bed and I just didn't feel right. About 5 minutes later I felt a huge kick ( harder than before) it really hurt!!! Before I could think about it I felt like I was peeing but it wouldn't stop!!! I went back to the bathroom ( all I could think about was not getting anything on our brand new carpeting that was installed in our bedroom) and then Niagra falls!!!... When people say you will know when your water breaks you definately will!!! I had to go straight to the hospital because I tested positive for strep B. We get to the hopital at 3:30 am on Sept. 1st and was taken in. I was monitored for the next couple of hours and did not progress. It was like my water broke but my contractions were not progressing so they decided to give me pitocin at aound 8:00am... Well as soon as that kicked in I was in excrutiating pain. I thought my threshold of pain was higher but I guess I was wrong. I was still only 2cm dilated. My doc said that if I wanted I could get my epidural at this time.. I didn't know what to do since I thought you could not get one until 4cm( that's what all the books say, so don't trust everything you read). WEll I decided to take the epidural and I am so glad I did. It was smooth sailing for the rest of my birth. My doc thought I would progress slowly but I went from 2-6 cm by 12:00 and by 2:00 I was at 9 cm. I started pushing at 2:30 , The doctor decided to use the vaccuum to get Jacob out since he was in a little distress but at 3:44 my precious Jacob was born!!! I had to have an episiotomy and of course my luck it was the worst you could get...
I am still very uncomfortable but hopefully I will recover sooner than later.
For all you ladies who will be delivering at NorthShore Manhasset, I was very happy with the care the nurses gave me during labor and delivery, granted my doc had 3 other deliveries going on at the same time. Oh and make sure you know how to put your newborn into the infant carrier seat because when you leave they wheel you down and say good bye...no help or anything.. WE were in the parking lot for a while trying to figure out how to do it....
ALso a funny story, I took a lamaze class through Northshore and became friendly with one of the couples at the class. We always thought it would be funny if we gave birth at the same time. I was due the 3rd, she the 4th. Well, during my labor I sent my husband to get something to eat since I was not progressing and when he went down he bumped ino my friend's husband. To find out she had a c-section the night before and her roommate was leaving. SO they went to the floor and arranged that I would be her new roommate. SO I got to be with someone I knew for the time I spent in the hospital. It made the experience so much better...
