All I can think of looking at that picture is that the guy carrying her killed himself
That was heartwrenching to watch in college. I can't even fathom it as a parent now that I have my own children.

Are you sure you arent thinking of the firefighter who carried the dead infant out of the oklahoma city bombing? I could have sworn I heard that he committed suicide because of the pressure and the awful situation. Maybe I am wrong?

I never heard he killed himself?
I think it happened a few years after he rescued her. I'm sure he had other problems in his life but even though it was a happy ending the whole situation haunted him.

You have to remember her parents were only 18 at the time and they weren't exactly "well-off" This is a story that had people, not only in the US, but in Italy and England, and everywhere else glued to their TV's ... people sent money from everywhere for "baby Jessica". Her parents put it in a trust fund over the past 18 years and it has grown to over $1 million now ...
