Moms of kids with special needs

Are there any out there?

My 2 YO was just diagnosed with PDD, a form of Autism. I just wondered if there were any other moms with kids with similiar conditions who'd like to chat.

Re: Moms of kids with special needs

My sister has a 2 and 1/2 yr old with CP.
He goes to a special school to help him adapt and catch up. There are alot of children in the school with various problems..and I can honestly say that this school has really been good for my nephew.

There are alot of programs out there to help both you and baby.

If you have any questions or just need to talk...please feel free to FM me. you don't have to go through this alone...I truely do understand...from being upset, frustrated, dealing with relatives who make stupid comments and all the paper pushing to get you baby the help that they deserve.

I'm sure that my sister will offer any available information that she has.

God Bless

Re: Moms of kids with special needs

My nephew has autism. There are sooo many support groups online.
Your school district should be able to provide you with the early intervention your child needs. Make sure they are involved. I think it is really important to understand that everything will be okayChat Icon One thing I definately think is important is to not read everyone on the Internet. Some of the 'cures" out there can put your child at medical risk. It was a hard road for my brother and SIL to accept their son's autism. It is still hard for them. But at the same time, he is a wonderful, loving, caring, healthy child and they are sooo grateful for that. It is hard when so many people say "I saw on Dateline this story about a kid who doesn't have austism anymore" and stuff like that..people would send tons of articles and ideas. It was done from a loving place, but was really hard for them. I think the issue that the still need help on is the fact that there are sooo many resources out there and you have to advocate for your child to get them.
If you need anything please FM me.

Re: Moms of kids with special needs

Our neighbor's daughter had PDD. She goes to a special school and has tutors that come every day throughout the week to give her lessons. I've seen a noticeable improvement in the way she acts and the way she speaks in the few months that she's been going. I don't know any of the information about the school, but I would gladly ask if you want more info.
