Just started the registry process, and now I have a massive headache

I thought I'd get a head-start on registering, since DH and I will be moving out of state soon and will be quite busy with moving and job related stuff.

I went to the Babies R Us website and started poking around, looking at different products, reading user reviews....
There are WAY too many user reviews to sift through, and a lot of things were so confusing. What the heck is an umbrella stroller? Do I need a travel system? What diapers are the best? And who knew that strollers could have so many options! Chat Icon
I was getting really frustrated with how one reviewer says that a certain product was the absolute best thing in the world, and the next would say that it was crap. Who am I supposed to believe???

So then I went out and bought the Baby Bargains book - what an awesome book! I learned so much from it; not just what brands/products are the best and what items are a waste of money, but other things like crib safety and things like that.

I still am totally overwhelmed by the amount of information that I have to go through. Ugh, this is going to take a lot more work than I thought! Chat Icon

I am DREADING having to register. I am just too overwhelmed to think about it. And it's like, I have to do research??!! Can't I just go to the store and pick out the pretty stuff?! (just kidding.)

Aww, it gets better once you get more familiar with the terms. Although I still don't really know what a layette is, so I guess I never needed it?

An umbrella stroller is a lightweight stroller that usually doesn't have much back support, so they are usually for older kids that can sit on their own well.

A travel system is a stroller where the infant seat snaps right into it (I have a Graco Metrolite stroller where the Snug ride seat went right into it). You can get around that by getting the stroller you want (say a McClaren) and a Graco infant seat (much cheaper and just as safe) and use a snap and go frame for the infant seat and then the stroller when the baby gets bigger. I loved my snap and go. Just left it in my trunk and it was great for the stores, and used my Metrolite for walks in our neighborhood.

Hope that helps a little. Chat Icon

Ha ha! That's what I was hoping! I'd look at strollers and go, "oooh, I like that one! It's so cool!" and then go to the BRU website and half the people love it and half the people think it's garbage Chat Icon
I think I'd much rather plan another wedding than register for baby stuff Chat Icon

Oh, I wasn't asking what those things were - the Baby Bargains book explained it all! But thanks anyway! Chat Icon

I think I'm going to look at someone else's registry and just say, "Copy and paste that onto mine, please!" Chat Icon

We took a bunch of trips to register, it is much easier and less overwhelming to do it in small doses.

The way I figured out what we wanted was ask other mommies which items they liked best and what the positives and negatives may be, and when you are at the store play around with some of the bigger items.. Good Luck I felt the same way you did...
