BTDT Moms.. and Cereal..

Hi girls, Jacob will be 4 months next week, and the ped told me I can start cereal this week since he is taking 32 oz of formula a day and seems to still be starving. Thing is, I tried the cereal Saturday, then sunday and he wont take it. He spits it out, and screams. Anyone's baby do the same? I guess it means he isnt ready, but he just seems to be so hungry and is already at 32 oz a day. Should i up the formula? any suggestions would be great. TIA

I mix 4-5 tablespoons of formula with one table spoon of cereal. My son seems to like it, but he does spit it out. It takes time for them to learn what to do. It's been 2.5 weeks now and he still spits a lot of it out. My ped told me when feeding him cereal, I should put the spoon in the back of his mouth. Obviously not far enough to make him gag but far enough so he won't spit most of out it with his tongue.

As for uping the formula, my son drinks 32.5 ounces a day and the doc said that was OK. He takes 5 6.5 oz bottles a day. So maybe you can up it a little but I wouldn't go too much over the 32 oz.

my son hated the cereal...until I started to mix it with apple sauce. I guess he need more flavor.

To hold him over though...I used to put 2 tables sppons of formula in his mid morning bottle and late afternoon bottle.

eating cereal and jar food is new to babies...and sometimes takes some getting used to. I would try once a day for about 4 weeks before James would eat from the spoon without spitting it out....just be patient..it sometimes takes some time.

Ryan HATED it at first and cried the whole time. It took a couple times and he eventually got used to it and now loves it.
