what a crappy family i have!!! LONG VENT

This morning i got some disturbing news, and my DH has been trying to help me cope but i just needed to vent! Here we go...
Mid-June my Grandmother passed away, after a long year of being sick with congestive heart failure. She really wanted to be at my wedding, I was her only grandaughter; my wedding was only a few weeks later; but she held on as long as she could and she was in a lot of pain.
Ok so my dad, my uncle and my aunt (my grandmothers children) don't have the best relationship, they pretty much put up with each other...but my uncle and dad are close...My aunt has ice water running through her veins. Ok so after she passed my dad and uncle wanted to have a reading of the will, b/c they were told by my grandmother that everything would be split three ways. My aunt refused to share any details of the will, so my dad held off till after the wedding. ok, so the other day my dad called my aunt and she hung up on him...today my uncle called my aunt and my aunt said that before she died my grandmother changed the will and that everything was being given to her!
I'm just appauled!! My grandfather is probably rolling in his grave!
I'm not upset about the whole money thing...i just cannot believe that my aunt took advantage of my grandmother like that and had her change the will! Towards the end, my grandmothers faculties(sp?) were not all there, so this is why i tend to think the above....I told my dad to have him and my uncle contest the will and they won't...My aunt told my uncle that she doesn't want a relationship with my father ( ) so my dad basically just wrote her off...but still its the principle!! Its not fair...and i know this is childish of me to think like this...but i can't stand to think that people screw their family over like this! I'm so disgusted!! and now i have to write a "thank you for coming to my wedding" to this lady when all i want to do is tell her what a horrible person she is...UGH!! I'm so stressed, i don't know what to do, i feel so helpless....

Big Hugs to you. I learned the hard way, nothing is yours until it is yours. When my mom passed away, my dad had everything (which was supposed to come to me). Ok, he married a gold digger and then he passed and the woman he married, had a garage sale and sold everything in the house. Some things of value, some things sentimental. When I got possesion of the house, she stripped the doors, flooring, even light bulbs. When unfair things like this happen, What goes around comes around and I guarentee you your aunt will get hers. If you fill your heart with negative thoughts, you will get sick and it wont do a thing to her. I'm so happy for you that you could come here and vent. Send her Thank You with love in your heart, she sounds like a miserable old bitty, lol!

I am sorry for your loss....but
you can prostest the will - if it was changed while your Grandmother was ill- and not in the right mind set to change it- it goes back to the orginal version

don't let her get away with this- what's right is right!

A similar thing happened with my mother and she basically says that "blood money" isn't worth fighting for. People who do things like that should be felt sorry for because they have nothing of meaning in their life!

I strongly believe in Karma! What goes around comes around and you don't have to have anything to do with it!

Thanks ladies, i believe in Karma too, so i hope she gets what she deserves...I just can't believe this happened in my family...i mean its not like my grandmother had millions of dollars..i think she really only had the house which isn't going to be a lot, so i don't know what my aunt is thinking...

Family isnt always what you wish it would be. When my dad died, my brother deceided everything was his and that he would dole out what he thought was appropriate to me. Needless to say I wound up with nothing. He literally gave my dads things to strangers and sold most of his collections. He had moved in with dad a month before he past and deceided that he was changing the locks if I didnt give him my keys to the house back and if he caught me near the house would have me arrested. He also told me that if I didnt put in a change of address he was doing it for me and throwing out all my mail. Over the years I have learned to just ignore the idiot and put it behind me but I still at times resesent what he did and I dont really speak to him. What goes around comes around though because now he's all alone except for friends who only talk to him to get something from him. His family wont speak to him and hes' married to a gold digger who is cheating on him and is going to wind up taking him for everything he deceided belonged to him So as you can see this goes on in alot of families. She'll get what she deserves in the end. Be a better person and send the Thank You too. Atleast you know your dad who she has no time for raised you right!!

What a horrible situation. your aunt should be ashamed of herself. And if I were you, there's no way I would send that woman a thank you card for the wedding. If she wants nothing to do with your dad, then you should have nothing to do with her.

Nicole - your dad shouldn't even have to contest the will. If the inheritance includes real property or is of a value that must go through the courts, the court is obligated to send out notification to all of your grandmother's living issue.

My sister pre-deceased my mother and my mother did NOT leave my sisters children in her will. Too long to explain why. But the upshot is that the court sent my sisters children notification and request for waiver of right to the inheritance. I would think they would do the same for your father.

LEgal stuff aside.

really? i've never heard of that...i know the house is obviously in the will, which my aunt said is on the market...i think that is the only thing my grandmother really had assests wise...plus the house in NJ so i'm not sure if the laws are different there.
my dad isn't sure what he wants to do, he is still really upset with the whole situation.
