what to expect at the 1 hour glucose test?

i have mine schdeduled in a couple weeks, all i know so far is that i have to fast at least 4 hours before...

what do they do?

why do i hear that people sometimes fail the 1 hour and then pass the 3 hour?

I did not take the 1 hour because my mom has type II diabetes, so the Dr. had me take the 3 hour. They give you this stuff to drink and then draw blood an hour later. If you do the three hour they take blood once an hour for three hours. You get the results in a few days usually. Good Luck!

the one hour test is simple. you will drink a cup of a very sweet drink. mine was orange flavored. then exactly one hour later they will draw a small amount of blood and test to see how well your body adapted to the high amount of sugar. i failed the one hour test by one point. then i passed the 3 hour test. its not uncommon to fail the one hour then pass the three hour. i have no idea why some fail the 1 hour then pass the 3 hour. it may have to do with fasting the night before and stuff.

When I did my test i didn't drink or eat anything from midnight that night, then went 1st thing in the am to the lab for the test. I was soo thirsty by that time, i drank that sweet drink so fast..

I was told to eat breakfast preferably something with protein but no sugar what so ever... Then I drank the lime drink and could not eat or drank anything after that till they drew blood. I passed and hope you do too!

Me too. Then I got a sugar rush and thought I would hurl. i am still waiting for my results.

Make sure you've followed your ob/gyn's instructions. Many women I know fasted (w/o telling their doctors) intentionally so they would "pass" the test. It's not that type of test.

If you have GD - or are borderline - it's best that they pick it up so you can be on the diet if necessary. It's not just to avoid big babies, GD is more complicated than most people think. Being on that diet is the best thing for your baby.

My doctor told me that she prefers I eat something before the 1hr to get a good result. I did and failed the 1hr. but only by a little bit.
She had me fast for the 3 hr and passed.

I had to fast from 10pm the night before.
I went in at 9am and they took my blood. Then they gave me the orange drink - I drank it and an hour lately they took my blood again, then I was free to go.
