Re: Moms of 9 month olds...

Marissa is almost 15 months and I check on her right before I go to bed and then when I get up in the middle of the nite.

Re: Moms of 9 month olds...

Mine (9months) makes me check up on him...usually a few times a night with his screaming cries lately. On a typical night, he wakes up at 11ish, 3ish and 5ish (by then we usually have to put him in our bed). If I am lucky, it is like this, some nights it is more - lately at 3ish he won't go back to sleep unless in my bed - after about an hour or so of trying everything we usually give in - urgh!!!! He use to sleep thru the night but since July we had crazy night wakenings on and off but mostly on.

If he doesn't wake up, I only check in on him before I go to sleep. I do still keep the monitor on in my room to feel comfy.

Re: Moms of 9 month olds...

OK good. I was wondering if I should still be popping in there several times a night.

Niecey, we have been experiencing the same thing with Andrew off and on. He will scream in the middle of the night and when I go into his room he is either sitting up or standing up in his crib. Sometimes I can rock him back to sleep, other times I give up and bring him into our bed (DH hates that!) and he'll fall asleep there. I was attributing it to teething, but I'm not really sure...

DH checks on her when he gets home from work (about 9:30) and then before he comes to bed (about 1).

I don't look in on her, but I always have the monitor on and she's really active in her sleep, so I can always hear her rolling around and sighing, etc. If I haven't heard her in a while I peek in, but otherwise I leave her alone.

Gianna has also been waking up on and off the past month. She will whine a bit and than play and than whine again and than will go to sleep, I dont go into her room unless she is crying because I dont want her getting used to the idea of me coming in and putting her to sleep. I am not sure if I am doing the right thing by not going into the room unless she is crying.Chat Icon She has always fell asleep on her own and we dont want her to come into our bed and get into that habit.

Re: Moms of 9 month olds...

Thanks for letting me know at least I am not alone. My dr blamed teething too but it has been for awhile now and my baby has no teeth (but he is teething- his gums are always swollen)...

If he is only whining or fussing I don't go in but pretty much within minutes of that he is all out screaming and he too is usually standing or sitting up. If he is still laying down, usually the pacifier works but if he is standing or sitting- I know I am in for a bad time...I have tried letting him cry a bit and it only makes him more awake. I avoid rocking him because usually it doesn't put him back asleep or if it does as soon as he hits the crib - he is back awake. I am staring to wonder if it is some kind of separation anxiety because 9 out of 10 times he is fine if he is in our bed! I figure in time I will deal with it all but the lack of sleep is getting to me - it is worse than when he was a little baby at times. Now he can be up for 1.5-2 hours stetches if we don't put him in our bed (which I was always trying to avoid)!

Re: Moms of 9 month olds...

Boy am I in the same boat! If I rock him, Andrew appears to be soundly sleeping in my arms, but during the transition from glider to crib he is WIDE AWAKE again and will cry if I put him down. But when I put him in our bed, he will fall asleep. It's been this way for a few weeks now. Prior to that he was sleeping through the night with no problem, just a few whimpers here or there.

DH says its a bad habit to start him sleeping with us. But when it's a work night I want at least a few hours of sleep. Otherwise, he might be up for 2-3 hours during the night!

I am so happy that I am not alone. Claire has also been getting up every 1.5-2 hours crying out in her sleep and if we wait it out she winds up screaming and is standing in her crib. For now we bring her into our bed, but even then she is very restless.....I hope this is a quick phase....

As for the original question, I dont check on her during the night for fear of waking her. But I keep the moniter on all night
