no. one leads to the permanent certification (prior to February 2004) the other one leads to the professional certification.

If you got your license after 2/2004, you will never get a permanent, you can only get the professional. NYS changed the teaching licenses to be more like other trades - they don't "automatically" renew, you must meet professional development requirements.

A HA...thanks....so basically I have to get a FT job in my initial certifications within 5 years to get professional?

You need to be teaching for 3 full years and complete professional development to obtain your professional license.
