alternative phone service
hi all - i currently have AT&T but the seem expensive abt $90 mthly - can anyone give some recommendation for other carriers?
ie verizion, etc

Thats what we have for home, and i Love it (cant beat the price for all the features that you get)
if youre talking about cell- DH and I have T-mobile (the family plan), and that price is really good, and i'm content with that service as well (it took them a couple of years to better themselves, but Im happy with their service now)

I love it!!! No problems, caller id, long distance and call waiting...all for $15/month!!!
How can you beat it!!!
BTW, we use verizon for our cell's and I really like them too, just we are paying $100/month for two phones.

i have heard of Optm Voice - but dont u have to change yr phne # and get an additional line ??
cell i have verision & good with that

I have optimum voice~34.95 a month. I think that new service, Vonage is cheaper.

you need to have optimum online, cabelvisions internet svc to get optimum voice. Depending on who your current phone provider is, you can keep your number however there is a $30 charge.

if you have the basic io package, call cablevision, or fm me you should get optimum rewards wich would give you a $20 credit on you bill, making it cheaper then vonage. Also I have heard from some of our subscribers that have had vonage that there are problems with thier system since they dont own the network, such as clarity, when people call in they get a message saying #no longer avail or busy, they also do not have true e911.

We're on the triple play pakces paying $30 for optimim voice. Both Time Warner and Cablevision have a telephone through broadband phone service. I think it's better than vonage, because with teh cable compnay, you're going over your existing broadband line which is also through the cable compnay so it's all in one place. It's good because it's cheap, unlimited calling and CV has free 411, but the disadvantage is that if your connection fails or theres a power outage you have no phone.

check out the at&t callvantage too. we have it and it's been good for us! it's their voice over IP phone service. Great price too, like optimum voice.

Battery backups are real cool. I got one from my job that they weren't using anymore.
Its a big "UPS" (uninterruptable power supply). Not only can it power my phone... but it can power my plasma, stereo system, and cable box for a few hours.
Can't be without TV during a blackout!
OV is a decent service too. My wife had it while she was living in Long Island. No issues.

I know a few people who have vonage for home, I heard it's great and cheap. I am going to look into it. I currently have digital phone w/time warner for 39.95 w/all the features.

I have the Opt. voice triple package. I was paying $80 a month with MCI's same plan. Now I'm paying like $15 or something like that. It's great so far!
