Can a Nurse Practitioner deliver a baby?

I was just curious. I see a nurse practitioner now and I was wondering if I would have to change.

Re: Can a Nurse Practitioner deliver a baby?

depends on what her training is and if she has certification. a np can very easily become a cnm, it's a matter of a few courses and a test.

Yes nurse midwives are nurse practitioners that specialize in women's health.

Re: Can a Nurse Practitioner deliver a baby?

i saw a nurse praticioner with my daughters i saw her in the office for all my prenatal appts...but she was not qualified to deliver i had to deliver with what ever dr was on staff/call for the hospital when i went into labor, then all postpartum care was done by the nurse practioner . so no i dont believe they can im 99% sure. This pregnancy i am going to a midwife and they can deliver

A women's health NP is not the same as a certified nurse midwife. Both very qualified to do what they are doing but a midwife can do prenatal visits your delivery and postpartum care
