Pet Insurance

We don't have pet insurance with Molly but was wondering if I should get it for the next pup that we are getting.

Do you have it? How does it work? Would you recommend getting it?

Thanks!

Re: Pet Insurance

I have Pet Insurance for Austin. We use VPI. I think the website is petinsurance.com.

We have the highest coverage you can have, and it costs about $30 a month.

It includes cancer care coverage as well.

We've had it for 4 years now, and I love it. Austin ended up getting really sick with pnemonia when he was 1 yr old and had to be hospatilized for 7 days. We got back almost every penny. I was so happy that we had the insurance.

You have to pay for the services up front, but you get reimbursed after you send in the claim. All you need is the Vets signature on your claim form, so just remember to bring one with you when you go there.

Everytime we get Heartworm preventative, or Flea preventative we send in a claim. Even for his ear meds. If we don't get anything back, we don't, but I always send in a claim. There is a cap on reimbursements for some services per year though.

Months do go by where we just pay, and pay to have the ins, and not use it, but you just never know when something may happen.

Go to their website. It is very helpfulChat Icon

ETA: I think they give a discount for more than 1 dog.

Couldn't have said it better myself. We have the same coverage and love it.

Re: Pet Insurance

I wonder if any of these pet insurances will take on Molly now though after knowing her history.
I guess it can't hurt to ask.

We had VPI for both our dogs (the highest coverage), but we found that we weren't getting much in return when we submitted claims.

We found that we were better off paying out of pocket, so we canceled the plans.

Re: Pet Insurance

In reading some of your threards, it seems like your dog already has some health issues. Be careful with insurance, i have not found one that covers pre-exisiting conditions....... So, make sure you specifically ask if what your dog has would not enable it to be covered in the future. My dog was being treated at first for a uti when we picked her up from the breeder. And then we found out that it might be a bigger problem with her bladder and how it was connected to her kidneys. B/c she was on that one medicine, she wouldn't have been covered for the bigger problem.

Otherwise, I think there are some good programs out there.
