We are starting construction in our house tomorrow

I am so nervous about how much dust and crap there will be- We are putting plastic on as much as possible- does anyone else have any suggestions about what else I could do to minimizer the dust from the sheetrock and walls being taken down?

Well one thing to know is that you really cannot minimize the dust - take it from me - I know...we have been doing renovations on my house for about 4 weeks now....And basically my house is very dusty. You should leave the windows and doors open when doing the work so the dust doesnt stay in the house....That is a must. We are lucky because we have no furniture in the house, but since you so I would say to put drop clothes over anything you dont want toget ruined, and to try to close doors to rooms that wont be needed.

What are you having done?

If it is just certain rooms you can hang a plastic sheet as a divider to stop the dust (as much as possible anyway) from getting into the other rooms.

Good luck!

Make sure you put plastic up everywhere and ducktape it to the ground. It helps alot but you will still have alot of dust. I would also mop every day and that would help too. Good luck! It'll be so worth it once it's all over! Chat Icon

Oh man I wish i could mop the dust out of my house. There is so much dirt on the cement floor. I have tried to sweep it so many times but there is always remaining dirt, and if I mop it then it will just become mud

Re: We are starting construction in our house tomorrow

We used heavy-duty plastic and taped it from floor to ceiling to keep the dust out of the rooms...it still was a little dusty, but nothing in comparrison to what it could be. However...the kitchen was not taped off.....what a mess!!!!

Here's an example:

Thank you very much for the suggestions. Right now the work will be minor, we are taking down a wall. We are opening up an extra room that we have that is huge and making that our formal dining room and then converting our formal dining room into a playroom for our daughter. Our dining room furniture is too big for the tiny dining room that we have now. The only problem is other than this wall. My downstairs is pretty much an open floor plan. We are going to try and tape and plastic off the upstairs but the ceilings are so high in the stairwell I don't know if I have a ladder that tall. We are moving all the babies stuff out of here. I just wish my hubby would have gotten his butt in gear and gotten this done before my daughter was born like I asked!Chat Icon

We took down a wall and blew out two closets into one big one......Use the plastic sheeting like everyone recommends...you wont believe how much dust will be in the air from the sheet rock and the stuff inside the walls too
