Maternity Clothing question

No, not ready to post here, but just have a question. Did you buy a whole new wardrobe when you were pregnant or just a few things here and there. Did you buy bigger sizes of tops or buy different tops? Sorry, know it's a weird question Chat Icon

Re: Maternity Clothing question

you can't really buy a whole new wardrobe at once, since you don't know how you'll grow and what you'll fit into when...

I've bought a few things here and there. I didn't switch to maternity shirts until 20 weeks or so, and I buy the same size I would buy pre-preggo. The main reason for switching to maternity tops was for their length. I found most regular tops weren't long enough to cover the belly and the "panel" on the pants.

Pants are a whole different story. I think I was in maternity jeans by 10-12 weeks, and I'm now growing out of the pair that I love. I've yet to find a good replacement.

Re: Maternity Clothing question

I am lucky because I wear scrubs to work which run so big that they still fit at 23 weeks. so I just boughtg some universal stuff - a few pairs of jeans, some casual tops and a few dressier ones. dont want to spend too much $$ on maternity stuff because with any luck - I wont need it for too long!

A few things here & there plus my twin & I had about 4-5 huge storage bins of maternity clothes that we passed back & forth through our 2 pregnancies.

Re: Maternity Clothing question

I only bought a few things as I dont work and didnt need any work clothes.
Im tall so still needed to buy regular pants just in bigger sizes but bought about 10 or 12 tops and wore them everyday.

I prefered maternity tops to " just bigger tops" becuase bigger tops tend to just make you look BIG where as maternity tops really show off your pregnant belly...

Re: Maternity Clothing question

I have started buying things here and there. My regular jeans don't fit any more so I have been wearing some gaucho pants I have from NY and Co and then maternity jeans/skirts. I am slowly unpacking my closet since my regular shirts don't fit. As someone mentioned, they are either too tight around my growing chest or don't cover the belly/panel.

By the end, I'm sure I will have a new wardrobe.

Re: Maternity Clothing question

I just bought a few things here and there. I am a teacher and was due in October so most of my time being pregnant was spent in the summer. I didn't want to buy a whole new wardrobe because I didn't think I needed it if I wasn't working. SO I bought a few verstatile pieces and it got me through the pregnancy fine.

My sister bought a new wardrobe, literally. She had to pack up all her old clothes and it filled her entire closet. By her 6th month none of it had fit her anymore becuase she gained so much more weight then expected.

Re: Maternity Clothing question

I just bought a few items here and there. I needed tops early on -- by like 8-10 weeks or so but my regular pants still fit me for a while -- just tighter. I find maternity clothes overpriced and rarely on sale so I try to buy as little as possible. You can also check out ebay. There's plenty for sale there if you don't mind wearing somebody elses stuff. I got some tops there, but wouldn't wear somebody elses pants.

Re: Maternity Clothing question

Considering you're pregnant for 3/4 of a year, you're going to have to buy in increments. You will grow and fit differently into things, but also, you will span a few seasons, so it's best to buy as you go along. That's what I'm doing. The only things that I bought to grow into were my work clothes.

Re: Maternity Clothing question

I know that I'll probably wind up buying a lot, but I'll buy as I go. I would hate to buy something and then never fit into it.

Re: Maternity Clothing question

In the beginning of my pregnancy - since it wasn't yet obvious - i bought a few shirts that were just bigger (they weren't maternity) - i figured after the pregnancy I would end up wearing them anyhow since it may take a bit of time to lose the weight and I was concerned if my boobs got huge - they would work anyhow.

After I bought materntiy shirts in moderation but always an XL - I bought shirts that I would grow into - and a few pairs of pants - gray, beige and black that I could alternate throughout the pregnancy - I wouldn't buy too much all at once though.

This is exactly what I did. For Christmas, my birthday, or any other occasion I would receive a gift for, I asked for gift cards from family to "maternity stores". I still have gift cards that I have not used that I am waiting to use as I grow out of what I have. The Gap & Old Navy have maternity clothes but I might save those gift cards for after the baby comes and I can't fit into my pre-preggo stuff. Some people have given me stuff, but it was too big for me. Besides, I like having my own stuff. I want to feel attractive while I am pregnant and some of my friends stuff is not my style.
