selling our co op to buy a tiny home?

Well we have decided that we cannot take co-op living the matinance, lack of yard, electric bills etc. For the space and location its getting kinda not worth it.

Anyway with me being out of work we cant afford much. We found a really cute 2 bedroom in a nice neighborhood but its super tiny- much smaller than our co op.

The pluses are it would be cheaper for us, the taxes are only 2k yr, the yard is fantastic with room to expand. There is a full unfinished basement- good for storage and laudry room and 1.5 detached garage that can be finished into an apartment(in our case den/ playroom- storage)- there already is electric, and cable inside and cesspool hookups. There is a full attic as well

the down side is the house is super tiny- literally in master the bedroom all we'd be able to fit is our bed ( we have a brand new king) and maybe a dresser. The babys room is a fine size cause his furniture is small. We would be completely downgrading in size but it would be a house and for the price we would absolutely be expanding in the near future?

Whats everyones opinions?

I guess something to think about is what your net profit will be for the sale of your coop, your timeline for expansion, and if you are planning to have more kids..how soon?

well we put alot down on the co op. we put down 55k and paid 115K and it should sell for around 165-170. So we are going to save some cash for the renovations. The only problem is what we are going to do for the renovations as far as living since we plan on expanding upward they would have to take the roof off at some point.

How much money are you allocating to expansion?

we are thinking about 30k ( a buider gave us a balpark fig)- since the house is tiny we are going to double the square foot which is only like 800 right now- plus we be adding a bathroom and extending the kitchen. The rest of the home is diamond condition and the garage is an easy 2k fix if we dont put a bathroom in it.

That sounds like a nice sized house after all is said and done. Can you sell your place, rent it from the new owners until your construction is done? That may work for you.

Re: selling our co op to buy a tiny home?

I dont know if I would do it. I presently am in a small house but it has three bedrooms and 2 baths. When it was just dh and I it was fine, but now that we have a child, the house seems so much smaller and we are either going to have to dormer (which we would have to take out a large loan for) or move-and the move would have to be out of the area for better jobs.

I live in a small two bedroom house, and I know atleast I have either potentional to build up (dormer) or move out.

Re: selling our co op to buy a tiny home?

we found a bigger house that we just put a bid on, ITs still kinda small but it had a large yard that needs major landscaping work but its really cheap and its really east to make an extensiion. We are waiting to hear back on our offer.
