What shouldn't you eat?

I'm not sure if there is a thread like this, but I can't find it, so I'm sorry if this has already been asked.

But, what shouldn't you eat. I spent my whole lunch hour in Barnes and Nobles and I got some nutrition books. But, I can't find what you SHOULDN'T eat.

TIA.

Re: What shouldn't you eat?

These are some of the ones I know, though I'm sure there are much more extensive lists.
no soft cheeses (brie, camembert, blue cheese, gorgonzola, etc...)
no deli meats
no hot dogs
stay away from fish with high mercury levels (other fish is ok once or twice a week)

Re: What shouldn't you eat?

Every doctor is different but i am going with what my doctor told me to stay away from:

Tuna Fish
Sushi
4 types of fish (shark, mackrel and two others i never even heard of)

I have heard soft cheeses and deli meats but i eat turkey and cheese every day and also enjoy feta now and again.

They also told me no over the counter medicine except Tylenol.

No raw sushi, but you can have rolls that are steamed- like california, shrimp or any kind of tempura rolls.

Re: What shouldn't you eat?

I ate sushi...california rolls, dragon rolls...but they were cooked.

I ate lots of hot dogs, but with tuna, I limited myself to one can a week.

I didn't eat shellfish or drink soda.

I love raw sushi, so to me it is pointless to eat a California roll. I just don't like them. My left arm for a spicy tuna roll from Yamaguchi in Port Washington!! Chat Icon

Re: What shouldn't you eat?

Every doctor and practice is different...here's my list

No big fish like Tuna, Mako, Swordfish, etc...because of the mercury levels.

No more then 12oz of any other type of seafood per week

Deli meats that have been sterilized by zapping them in the mircowave... about 30 seconds per 1/2 lbs.

Soft cheese if made from pasturized milk, whether imported or not.

No Sweet 'n Low aka sachrine (sp)....other sweetners are fine in moderation

No raw fish

Ground meat, like hamburgers, need to be all brown...no pink inside.

Re: What shouldn't you eat?

I already told DH I want takeout sushi and a diet coke after delivery!

Chat Icon ETA: Is eel ok? I love the cooked eel and pickled veggies on a bed of rice dish - I could handle that for a while...

Re: What shouldn't you eat?

Yes...Eel is fine. I eat the dragon rolls that are made of cooked eel. As long as it's cooked, then you're good.

Shrimp, clams and other shell fish are fine- as long as you don't eat more than 1-2 servings a week. Fish is actually good for you when you're pregnant as long as you eat it in moderation.

You can still eat tuna once in a while, but you should try to limit it because of the mercury levels.

Re: What shouldn't you eat?

it seems like everyones drs told them something different. depends on how strict your dr is but mine told me:

reduce amount of cold cuts
no soft cheeses
one can of tuna a week at most
no alcohol (thats a given)
and to drink a GALLON of water a day!! yikes. thats a lot..
