You haven't had one sonogram yet at 16 weeks? I'm surprised. Have you heard the heartbeat yet?

Not all sonos will be covered by insurance, that is why doctors only do them at certain times. I would check first.... Anotehr month is not too long to wait, it goes fast!!

Oh I see. Good luck! Do they listen to the heartbeat even if they don't do a sono? Just hearing the heartbeat is reassuring too. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My midwife is SO thorough for every little “oh and ah” I had they gave me a sono! In your case having 2 losses Chat Icon I would ESPECIALLY be overly anxious and try to get in ASAP! You are NOT jinxing yourself, you are being a concerned mom Chat Icon Keep us posted!

Re: so i called the dr.....

The should at least let you hear the heartbeat with the doppler. I would ask for a quick sono if they arent too busy. I know I didnt get one until 20 wks but its worth asking! I'm sure the little baby is fine. I rented a doppler and it really put my mind at ease to be able to hear her heartbeat when ever I wanted.

They don't check for the baby's heartbeat at your prenatal visits? I thought that was standard, no?

Starting from 12 weeks a typical visit should include checking for the heartbeat whether it be with a doppler or a sono.

My doctor checks the baby's heartbeat at every visit with a doppler. I had a sonogram at 20 weeks and then I have another one scheduled for 36 weeks (next week). I did have another unplanned sonogram, but that was because I fell on my stomach, but all was well. The doctor should check the heartbeat at your next visit with a doppler if they don't do the sonogram.

I would not lie to a doctor about symptoms. To me that is just tempting fate... I am too superstitious about that.

I would have to agree. Just be honest and tell your Dr. that after two miscarriage it would really put your mind at ease to either have a doppler reading or a scan. I'm sure he/she will ablige.
