Tales of a Working Mommy trying to find a Babysitter...
Part 2: The Pimp and the Ho
I decided to try a different route in my search for daycare... just to see what' other options are out there. DH and I interviewed a sitter yesterday who I found through a well known website which shall remain nameless.
Ho, a very shy and painfully timid 25-yr-old Latina girl arrives with her Pimp, an older, more boisterous Latina.
Pimp approaches Jake who screams in horror.
Ho has no car, has been in this country for two years and barely speaks a lick of English. That's okay though because she's going to school to learn English and luckily I speak Spanish... this how I get a good deal, right?
References? "Uh... sure. But I don't have their phone numbers."
Lovely. So how much? Ho looks completely dumbstruck and shrugs cluelessly. She mutters something that sounds like "very little".  And looks up from the floor for the first time at her Pimp.
Pimp gives her a stern look. Jake flashes a mischievious yet flirty smile at Ho.
Pimp blurts out "$400 a week"
DH chokes back a laugh.
As I watch them return to their car where some guy has been sitting there waiting for them suspiciously flipping through papers I begin to think that DH and I have uncovered some type of illegal immigrant nanny ring.
And the search continues...

Have you tried the Nassau County Child Care Council ?
I know when I was first looking, the Suffolk one sent me a list of in home, our of home daycares in my area.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this. What about the YMCA? Do they have those in NY? I know a few friends that have used the daycare there. I'm not sure how much it is though.

In reality the girl (aka "Ho") was not that bad - she seemed very sweet and moldable...it was the whole situation that was just
I just have to keep telling myself that I'll find something... and be thankful that I do actually have daycare in the meantime!
