Pre-TTC question
DH and I will start TTC in September. We live in Lake Ronkonkoma and I work in Hempstead (45 minutes away). My gyno is in Garden City which is near my office so it's been more convenient for appointments over the years, I usually go during lunch (I know nice way to spend a lunch break). I've been going to him for almost 10 years and I love him. I was thinking that when I get pg I should probably go to an ob/gyn near home since I'll want to deliver in a hospital close to home. So my question is....should I find someone now and make an appointment to meet the person or just wait until I get pg? Or should I just ask my current gyno for a recommendation?
Thanks for the advice. I can't wait to offically join all of you ladies!

Honestly, if you are comfortable with your gyno-ob...I would stay with him/her. My girlfriend had her son in Glen Cove Hospital and she lives in Ronkonkoma (Nob Hill). You generally have plenty of time before the baby actually comes that you have very little to worry about.

Thats a tough one. I would hate to leave someone I have been seeing for 10 years. Also, when you are PG you will have a lot of appointmnets, so convenience will be important. But I understand wanting to deliver closer to home. IF you are going to switch I would suggest doing it before you are PG, but I would talk to your gyn about it first.

For me, I stayed with the Dr. I liked. That is more important then what hospital I might deliver in. Currently, I'm in Huntington and the Dr. is in Setauket.

just curious, who is your Dr.? Mine is in Setauket too. I go to Dr. Porter, Funt, O'Keefe and (I forgot the last one's name)! Dr. Funt was my Dr. until I got preggo. Now they have me seeing all the others.

it's a tough call.....if you REALLY like him, then you might want to stay with considering you have a history with the practice. Does he have rights at a hospital near you possibly????
If you are going to change, I'd ask him for a personal recommendation in your area. I'm sure he'll give you someone great!

I go to Dr. Griffin with University Assocates. I know there are a bunch of doctors in the practice but I don't know any other names.

Hi my almost-date twin!!
I was in the same situation. I loved mine, but she was 2 hours away!!  and it wasn't feasible at all. Even she said - "Find a doctor you like closer to home - this will not be convenient for you!!"
Maybe ask yours what he/she thinks?
